With my first 2 pregnancies I had routine hospital births. This time around I knew I wanted something different, so we decided to use a midwife at a birthing center.
Bay Area Birth Center
I started having contractions at about 10:30 a.m. on July 24th. My mom, dad and grandma started the drive down from Nacogdoches. I still wasn't sure that I was definitely in labor but my mom has a sixth sense about these things. My contractions were somewhat regular and finally, at about 3:30, we decided to head over to the birth center and my sister, Meredith, her husband, Justin, and their sweet boy, Jackson, headed over from College Station.
Ready to go!
When we got there I was dilated to 2 cm and was 50% effaced. For the next few hours I enjoyed visiting with my entourage while continuing to have pretty regular contractions.
Beached whale!
At about 8:30 my midwife, Jackie, checked me again and I was dilated to 5 cm. Yes, progress! This is when I was convinced that I was truly in labor.
This is what I did...
This is what everyone else did...
After I had dilated to 5 cm I decided it was time to get into the tub and things progressed rapidly from there. Evelyn Sophia was born at 1:11 am on July 25. She weighed 7 lbs. 1 oz. and was 20 1/2" long.
Everyone was so excited to meet her!
